Spring Semester in Review
The schedule became so busy February-May that we haven't had time to keep up with all the "happenings" of the students of the Mountain View Jr. Music Club. The students all placed Superior ratings at all the festivals and many students placed 1st-3rd in the ACEA State Fine Arts competition. Several students even qualified to compete in the ACEA National Competition held at Bob Jones University this past April. Marissa and Valerie each competed in a piano competition associated with the Alabama Federation of Music Clubs. Marissa won $50.00 cash prize in her competition. Valerie didn't place this time, but she performed very well and received some wonderful comments from the judges. Four of our voice students(Marissa, Victoria W., Christine, and Victoria G.) competed in a small vocal ensemble at ACEA state competition and won first in the
state and third at Nationals!

Jr. Composer Contest Winner
Christine placed 2nd in the state with her original piano composition. She was able to perform her song, "The Grace of God" at the Alabama Federation of Music Club's state convention in late April where she was awarded a ribbon and small cash prize. We have many creative students who arrange and compose piano, vocal and instrumental pieces. Students, use the time you have this summer to create new pieces, and utilize your theory training to write it out while you have the extra time!
Marissa was able to perform her vocal piece, "Vittoria Mio Core" at the state convention as well. Victoria, Marissa, and Shayna all received their gold cups at the convention this year. Marissa received her third gold cup in piano solo, and her first in piano duet and her second in vocal solo. Victoria received her first in piano duet and second in hymn playing. Shayna received her first in vocal solo. Congratulations Ladies!

Student Achievements
Christine W. entered AFMC Junior Composer contest with her piano composition entitled "The Grace of God." We have not had a student enter this competion for several years. Former student, Katey V., entered and won in her catagory and then placed 2nd in state finals. She was able to perform her composition "Why?" at the AFMC Jr. State Convention. We have not received the contest results for this year's competition, but we should hear sometime before March. Christine had to compose a song and then notate it on manuscript paper and record a c.d. to send in for the contest. Many thanks to Mary S. for printing her composition with Finale print music notation software! It looks wonderful! We hope to see other students enter this competition in the future! Many students have composed their own arrangements of sacred pieces over the years, and we are thankful for all the talent God has blessed our students with.

Three Seniors (Victoria, Marissa, & Shayna) participated in the A.F.M.C Junior Auditions held at Birmingham Southern College on January 21, 2012. The girls auditioned with a 15 minute program of Art songs that represented the various time periods. We would like to thank their accompanist Naomi and Kristen for a job well done! The girls did a fantastic job! We appreciate all the work that went into preparing for the audition. They were such a testimony for the Lord! These girls will be presenting their Senior Recital at Samford University this coming May. We hope you will attend their musical performance! All the voice students are presently preparing for festival/auditions to be held at Samford University on February 25, 2012 and for competitions being held in March.
Victoria and her friend Callie presented the National Anthem at MVBS home game against Lindsey Lane. It was beautiful, girls! MVJMC girls quartet presented the National Anthem at MVBS homecoming game last night. (I do not have any pictures to post of this event at this time.)

Welcome New Student!
Mountain View Junior Music Club welcomes Natalie! We hope you enjoy taking music lessons with MVJMC! Natalie's older sisters have been taking piano with us for several years, so she is not a stranger. Natalie is in the fourth grade and takes piano lessons from her older sister and has started playing the flute in the beginner band this year at MVBS.

Children's Hospital Christmas Performance
On December 21,2011, MVJMC and friends from our school and church presented a musical program in the foyer at Children's Hospital. The students did a wonderful job! Many people stopped to listen to the performances. The gospel was presented clearly in song, and passed out to those walking by in tract and d.v.d form. Thank you to all who participated in this outreach and ministry opportunity.
