We have been so blessed, over the years, to work with some incredible parents who love the Lord and their kids. Recently, I picked up a book entitled, "Raising Unselfish Children in a Self-Absorbed Word" by Jill Rigby. It has been a convicting book to read, but it has left me thankful for the many parents we work with, and the wonderful example they have been to us. So many of our students have parents who keep "eternity in view" concerning giving their children music lessons. In closing, I will quote from the book mentioned above.
"If we want our children to grow up to be humble adults who place their confidence in God rather than in themselves, we must:
- Teach them to listen to God's voice.
- Help them see His hand in their lives.
- Give them opportunities to serve God by serving others.
- Teach them that their gifts come from God."
"Humility before God gives confidence before men." Wise Old Wilbur
Thank you, parents, for taking the time to bring your child(ren) to lessons each week, to make sure they practice, and to encourage them to serve God and others by sharing their musical talent (in public or in private - in the "important" places as well as the "obscure") as God provides the opportunities. This book emphasizes the importance of teaching our children to view the world as if they were looking out a window ( seeing others and their needs) as opposed to viewing the world through a mirror ( seeing only themselves and their own needs).
Looking forward to working with your child this week!
